I started crossfit about ten years ago thanks to a good friend that told me about a different kind of workout he did in the military.  I tried it on my own following the main site and knew I had found a great program. The results I found through CrossFit were like no other.

After a couple years, a local box opened up and I joined immediately. I found out first hand the community that is created through CrossFit and I wanted to pass this along to others.

I opened CrossFit Marion in 2012 with a couple friends and it was an instant success. I have met so many great people over the years, including my wife Brittany.

The most rewarding part of coaching I have found is seeing members accomplish things they never thought possible. I have seen so many lives changed for the better over the the past few years and I am a true case of this. I have not always been in good shape. CrossFit keeps me in great shape and I love the challenge of every workout.

I have worked in banking since I graduated college in 2004. As much as I love my job, Crossfit has helped fill a void in my life and it is a great stress reliever after a long day in the office.

I went to my first CrossFit class in October of 2013 and have been hooked ever since. I was an avid runner with a few marathons and many half marathons under my belt but needed a change of pace. My brother was doing CrossFit in St. Louis and suggested I try it. I love everything about CrossFit, the strength, the cardio, the mobility. I train at least 5 days a week and I don’t feel as “beat up” like I did when I was running all the time.

The best parts about CrossFit are the people, fellow Trainers and Athletes. Being able to train with other like minded people is the best part of my day. The camaraderie in the class setting is second to none.

I got my Level 1 in May of 2016 and started coaching classes a few hours a week. I enjoy helping new athletes learn new movements and achieve their goals. There’s nothing more rewarding that to have someone PR a lift or learn a new movement that they thought they could never achieve.  I look forward to broadening my Training resume and sharing them with you.

I joined CrossFit in 2009, and fell in love with the training program and the community that it creates. I soon became a coach in 2011. I became a member of the CrossFit Marion team from the beginning. I coach the early 5 AM class three days a week, and really enjoy my early morning friends who get up so early to come in and workout.

I have recently changed my training program for myself and I am running marathons these days, although I always try to incorporate CrossFit styles with my training program. I have qualified for Boston twice, and I am always willing to give people help with improving their running style. Even though I have started running more, I never forget how I got there, through CrossFit!

I was always active as a child and was involved in various activities such as gymnastics, dance, cheer, softball, and volleyball, but was never fully focused on a particular sport. I much preferred "unstructured" activity, and spent a lot of time playing outside, riding bikes, swimming, climbing trees, and exploring my surroundings.

As an adult, I tried different fitness classes here & there, but again, nothing really held my attention for long. I started running in 2009 after a few years in my office job left me feeling sedentary. Though I stuck with running for a few years, just like the fitness classes, it still seemed like just another chore to do every day. It was never something I looked forward to or strived to get better at.

I was introduced to Crossfit by a friend and fellow runner, who was bored with running like I was and seeking a new challenge. He bothered me to try it until I finally gave in, with no idea what to expect when I walked in the door. I had never even picked up a barbell and the "weight room" was always the part of the gym I avoided. I remember being intimidated, but intrigued. The workouts seemed impossible, which was the very reason I kept coming back. Every day was a small victory, a new adventure. I found myself anxious to learn and improve. My daily workout is no longer a chore to do, it is my therapy. And the community at Crossfit Marion is my second family. I am thrilled and grateful to be part of such a dynamic team.

I mainly coach the 5:30pm classes and Saturdays.  My favorite Crossfitters are Annie Thorrisdottir and Dan Bailey.

Favorite Crossfit movement: Squat Cleans. Least favorite: Running anything over 400 meters.

My prerogative: I believe in the power of exercise and salute anyone who attempts to better themselves.  Lift one another up, be encouraging, and squat deep.

Go Cubs!!

Never in a million years would I have imagined becoming a gym member, much less a coach.  For many years I quietly exercised at home alone, following the same exercise routine that always ended with a grueling thirty minutes on my basement treadmill to “get my cardio.”  I absolutely dreaded it and although I was fitter than most, I made zero gains in strength or endurance.  At the urging of a close friend I did my first CrossFit workout in 2008 and have not once looked back.  I am stronger and more fit than I ever thought possible, and I am living proof that it is possible to be vegetarian or vegan and perform well at CrossFit.  I am no longer intimidated by such things as lifting heavy weights or long runs, yet still feel the same excitement and giddy apprehension about the workout of the day that I did in the beginning.

I am proud to be a member of the CrossFit Marion coaching team, and I love our enthusiastic members and the great space we have to work out in.  Our coaches are focused on helping you--the members-become more fit.  We will teach you how to do these intense workouts safely, while making your time at the gym the very best part of your day.

Although I don’t have much free time to devote to coaching, I look forward to filling in.  I am always available to answer questions or check form, so ask if you see me and I will be happy to help.
